Section 2: Documentation

Now, we’ll help you provide acceptable documents: You must present original, unexpired documents that establish your identity and employment eligibility. The form lists different combinations of acceptable documents, such as a U.S. passport, driver’s license, Social Security card, or a Permanent Resident Card. Note that there are specific requirements for certain categories of workers, such as refugees or asylees.

Review and attest: Ensure that all the information provided is accurate and complete. Both you and your new employer (or authorized representative) must certify that the information provided is true and that the required documents have been examined and verified.

Do you have ONE document from List A?
List A documents: If you have a document from List A, it establishes both identity and employment eligibility. List A documents include: U.S. Passport (or U.S. Passport Card) Permanent Resident Card (Form I-551) Employment Authorization Document (Form I-766) Foreign passport with an attached employment authorization document Passport from the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) or the Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI) with an I-94 or I-94A arrival/departure record
Do you have ONE document from BOTH List B and ONE document from List C?
Lists B and C documents: If you do not have a document from List A, you must have a combination of documents from Lists B and C to establish both identity and employment eligibility. List B documents establish identity: These include documents such as a driver's license, ID card issued by a federal, state, or local government agency, school ID card with a photograph, or a voter registration card. List C documents establish employment eligibility: These include documents such as a Social Security card, birth certificate, U.S. Citizen ID Card, or a Native American tribal document.
